We are currently at capacity for ADHD Assessment until 2027. Please contact the practice on 8322 2099 to add your details to our waitlist.
From March 2026 onward, accredited South Australian GPs can independently diagnose and manage attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) for children 8 years old or above. Woodcroft Medical Centre is happy to announce that Dr Kwan Chia, our accredited ADHD GP Diagnostician, now accepts referrals for diagnostic assessment for new and existing patients.
ADHD Assessment
The assessment and treatment of ADHD can involve controlled medications and require careful monitoring. This information outlines expectations for safe, effective and collaborative care. It incorporates the outpatient assessment process and standard responsibilities for controlled medication use consistent with current best practice.
It is important to note that undergoing assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis nor guarantee stimulant prescription. A diagnosis and medication recommendation requires meeting full diagnostic criteria and completing all investigations.
One of the most common co-occurring conditions of ADHD are autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Currently, ASD is diagnosed under a team-based model in which GP is not included. Should ASD be suspected during ADHD assessment process, referral would be recommended.
Appointments and Fees
Cancellation of less than 2 hours and failure to attend each appointment will result in $250 deposit being forfeited, This also applies to late arrivals as a minimum of 60 minutes is required.
If your appointment was booked prior to 1st July 2026, previous fee structure will be honoured.

Components of Assessment
A thorough assessment includes exploring multiple areas to develop a complete understanding of your symptoms and history. Your ADHD diagnostic assessment will include the following:
- Medical History
- Developmental and Education History
- Functional Assessment
- Psychometric Testing
- Physical Examination
- Diagnosis
- Recommendation
- Pathology Tests if clinically indicated
- Cardiology Investigation if clinically indicated
- Urine Drug Screen if clinically indicated
Expectation If Psychostimulant Is Prescribed
Ongoing care and prescribing (if applicable) can be undertaken by your regular GP, or through this clinic. Medications for ADHD are highly regulated under South Australian legislation Controlled Substances Act (1984) and require strict conditions to be met to qualify to request an approval from the SA Government’s Drug of Dependence Unit (DDU). It is unlawful to have ongoing prescription of stimulants without DDU approval. The condition to obtain approval includes, but not limited to, undergoing full diagnostic assessment and participation in non-pharmacological interventions. Certain conditions may affect the suitability of certain medications and may even preclude their use. Once prescribed, patients require close monitoring necessitating up to weekly reviews particularly in the initiation stages.
